About Emily Mirla Harrison
Emily Mirla Harrison is an Australian pianist, screen composer and post-classical recording artist who performs and releases music as Mirla.
Her music moves between delicate solo piano, minimalism and atmospheric, cinematic soundscapes. Mirla’s performances can shift from quiet, poignant passages into expansive and defiant movements, with influences ranging from Romantic composers such as Chopin, Rachmaninov and Debussy through to contemporary neoclassical artists.
Her debut album, Solitaire: The Virtue of Patience, was released in 2021 and featured on ABC Classic Drive. Inspired by the wartime diaries of her grandmother, the work explores separation, captivity, hope and resilience. The concept received the Johnny Dennis Music Award from the Australian Guild of Screen Composers.
Emily is also an accomplished screen composer. A graduate of the Australian Film Television and Radio School, her credits include co-composing and music supervision for the feature documentary Undone, composition for the award-winning animation Bluey, and music for organisations and brands including UNICEF and Billabong Women.
Alongside composition, Emily has worked as a nurse in Emergency Departments, Oncology and remote Aboriginal Health Centres. That experience has strengthened her interest in the potential for music to transform healthcare environments and support people experiencing difficult moments.
Her collaboration with Hush Foundation on Seeking Solace brings those parts of her life together, with original music inspired by the stories of women navigating their mental health.
